I’m usually in Messiah when it comes to C.A. but lately I have been giving Layout a run around the block. I like joints. They are fast and easy to set up and the toolset is pretty solid. When I rig, I am heavy handed with the expressions. It’s not uncommon for me to have 75+ expression going for one Character. The problem I am having is getting expressions to work after IK in Lightwave. Instead of using muscle bulge, which results I don’t like, I use bones which gives more precise and controlled deformations. For FK, it’s fantastic. I have no complaints and besides, all setups are done using FK. For IK, it doesn’t work at all, even after I hit the After IK tab in the expression window. Am I using the wrong expression? I see the joint rotating after IK and the values are changing but the expression will not execute. smh? :curious:
After IK expressions with Joints. Null Return
Problem solved. It appears that I am getting a return, just not in real-time. If I create a keyframe on the rotating joint, the expression will work. hhhmmm, Kinda sucks to have to key the motion. The point of the expression was so that I would not have to keyframe secondaries. Oh well, at least it runs in real-time using FK.
The after IK switch ONLY works for LScript based expressions, not regular.
I can also tell you that for the vast majority of cases using muscle bones is not the best way to go with LW. The built in deform modifiers, sometimes accompanied by a lil morfing is often much easier to get good results with.
Check out the hulk rig on my website for an example.
