After Effects, Photoshop & 3ds Max Matte Painting

#1

Here’s a matte painting of a cloud city that started out in photoshop, then brought into after effects. Used 3ds Max for the ship to give it a bit more life. My original scene was without the ship, but after talking with people in the forums, I think a ship definitely helps the scene out. Comments & Critiques always appreciated.

hi, you concept and mood is very nice, but I think you have to improve some things here,
first your ship needs motion blur, and it needs to have the same redish sunset feeling you have in your sunset lighting
the ship approach to the city is super fast it must have crashed in some building,
at this time of the day you can use some city lights all over the buildings/city
you could have some more flying vehicles around the city, just to make it more and more dynamic
I think you could use more cloud layers in the foreground to make it look really big and far away
looking forward to see more

Thanks for the critiique. Very good points you’ve address. I hope to refine the scene and make it better.

i agree with Jaime. I also think the city should be less umiformaly built up. Have some smaller suburbs and things to break it up, and add some more interesting lighting on the city to bring it to life too. That sun should be doing some cool things in amongst all that complex architecture!
Also i would change the look of the island underneath too to make it less symmetrical and more natural looking.

Keep it up, this is definitely heading in the right direction.
