Aegis:2375 - A Collaborative Science Fiction Project

#1021

Hiya guys, just got back from up the coast…did some graphics on a mates car.

I am keen to do that paint over, If you do a dramatic dogfight scene with the bullnose heading towards us and the ceph swooping in for the kill…maybe part of the red planet in the background…

Sounds good. If you create a draft setup, where all the components in the scene are, then i will start rendering these components.

Oh, another thing, i have been working on an official site for aegis for a while now. there have been a lot of different ideas. but i have settled for something pretty simple, because of the limited time i have available. Expect the site online later this week. Sean, keep me informed about the music score, i am really curious.

#1022

I have finished a rough version of the site. Sound is not good yet and the thumbs don’t work yet. I also want to add some more things in the background. But the general idea is done!

so, just look at:

Hiya,

I will have something in the next few days drawn up

The site is very cool…love it. Just one thing I found the text a little small to read

Cheers
Mark E5

#1024

yeah, very cool victor…(yeah the text is a bit tiny…and my browser is set to zoom the text, and it didn’t) but that’s a great concept and a great start…although this wasn’t in there

or this

or even this

and all those tokamak fusion generators on the aegis will need to get helium from this

if you haven’t read the book ‘entering space’ by robert zubrin, it might just make you think that dene wasn’t too far off with this idea …

i’ll see if i can finish the model for sanguine XM-13 tonight…(the red planet) :buttrock:

#1025

should i fully texture the model or are they going to be painted over?

#1026

Thanks guys.

Yeah, the text is small…But i haven’t found a font yet on a bigger scale that suits the site style. ( i aslo like small fonts, my browser fonts are always set to really tiny ;), but i can understand its hard for some people to read ). So if you guys have any font suggestions. But its just a start, still have some work to do, like the background. Will probably get on it later this week.

Monday, the more complete the model is when we add it to the scene, the better the paint over will be, because mark will have more information to work with. So try to make it as realistic and complex as you can get it.

#1027

@victor-alright, what resolution?

it’ll take me a few days* to get all the texture maps right…

what’s the deadline on this anyways?

*in monday’s world ‘a few days’ could actually be a few days or then again, it could be a week and a half, especially when he’s buying a new car this week and has to do all the related things involved with that…

@mark- when i render this, i’ll render diffuse, glows and shadows and all that as seperate layers- i imagine you are a photoshop addict, right? any particulars as to how you want anything done? particular file formats? i can only email 10 megs at a time, untill i get a Gmail account…

Make the resolution pretty high, because we want to use it on poster format. So at least 1200 * 1200 pixels.

We also have a new member! The_Wicked_Caveman is working on the hunter-hullbuster. He needs some more sketches to complete the model.

So Mark, if you have some time, can you please make some sketches from the side and back. He has already started modelling it, so it would be nice if they are done in a couple of days.

We also might get two more new members soon. But i will keep you guys informed about it.

Oh, and for anyone interested:

A screen of my 3D chess program so far

#1029

nice textures on that chess set. i was thinking more along the lines of the chess game in star wars (episode 4), but for traditional that’s looking great. it’s better than the one that comes with osX for apple…

@the_wicked_caveman, glad you’re here, we need all the help we can get, what’s your name? it takes to long to type out your screen name, i can’t be bothered with shift keys and stuff, that’s too fancy for me :argh:

Oh, man, monday. I totally forgot to reply to your images.
They are really nice. I love the crisp textures of the orange planet. Could you keep working on that one? Maybe add some dustclouds moving over the planet. I really want to use that one in the poster.

Oh, and i will add the red planet on the site on your next update ok

#1031

Hi to all I’m glad to be here to hehe

@monday1313: sorry for that name I kinda heritage from highschool  the real name is Jozef way shorter then The Wicked Caveman.

I’ll go on modelling but I’m having some authorisation problem at the moment just recieved the code entered it but it just keeps asking for another :s anyone knows what to do?

Anyways DogmaD showed me a lot of the concept art told me a bit more about the store etc. so thanks again DogmaD

Greets

The Wicked Caveman aka Jozef

#1032

I dont want this to come accross in the wrong way but although my images (of the leodis tank) are included on you website dogmad, my name dosen’t feature anywhere. although i havent been active recently I still think it is only fair that I am credited for the work i did on the project.
Wayne

#1033

@jozef, what modeler are you using? now i gotta ask how you got the wicked caveman name!

@victor, glad you liked those, that red planet is actually mars, but i’m actually going to be basing the color scheme off that because the oxidation in the soil on the other planet should give it about the same color. essentially when the impact happened, the atmosphere got mostly blasted into space and what remained combined with the dust cloud around it and fell back to the planet. here’s what i’ve got done so far, i must stress this is a work in progress, the rim of the main crater needs to be detailed and the crack needs to be extended through the second crater. little cracks and craters will be mapped, and this isn’t the final color, just used it for visualization purposes, the big hole in the main crater is an eruption and magma flow. imagine olympus mons exploding like mt. st.helens or pompei, messy…

#1034

Hiya monday, I do like things in Tiff format but Jpg and png are cool.

Victor I will try and get the hullbuster side and back done today

Welcome aboard The_Wicked_Caveman

Sorry just a quick post before work…

#1035

Hiya,

Back from work and here is the Hullbuster ortho’s

and this is the graphics I did on my mates custom 1991 VN Holden Commodore…lots of taping and 2 days work.

#1036

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the very quick response. I think Jozef can proceed now. I already have given him the bullnose and missile models. So he has some nice things to start modelling from.
The car is looking great, man, it looks like you live in paradise over there. With the nice weather and the palmtrees. I need some of that, its all dark and gloomy in holland, i wish it was summer. :frowning:

@Wayne

Wayne, your name is under computer graphics, at least, it is in my version (and it was there from the very start). Are you sure you are not on the list, look under production team->computer graphics and then you are the last on the list. It is in alphabetic order. If not, there is some problem with the flash on different computers. And, no, you didn’t come across the wrong way, its only fair that everyone gets the credit they deserve. Are you still on the project? Because you are a really good modeller, and it would be nice to still have you on the team.

If anyone finds his name missing and has done some valid, used work on the project, please tell me. Because i want to give the right credits to everyone. And its still a testsite and as the forum is down, i can’t really get all the info i want. Oh, and on the site only the production team is credited at the moment. Those are the people who have done the biggest contributions. I will add all the other contributors too, but as there are so many and i have no forum access, it will have to wait a little bit. Sorry for that, but i just don’t know everyones first name and i don’t want to use the avatar names…

@ Monday

Ok man, yeah, change the texture around a little. The model looks pretty good. Maybe make the stretch marks on the planet from the center outwards. So it looks a bit more like there was a big impact.

#1037

@mark, those are some nice graphics. are you gonna do more stuff like that?

@victor, don’t forget, with the palm trees comes hurricanes, cyclones, tsunamis and sweltering summers.

#1038

awesome to still see you guys working away at this
oh monday1313, if you need a gmail account lemme know, ive got a few invites sitting there doing nothing

#1039

Hiya guys

@Victor I will have the overpaint sketch done soon. Very nice place up the coast but when its hot its stinking hot the night before the pic was taken was a huge thunder storm. We drove up in it and the worst bit was overtaking the road trains those big babies kick up so much water at 110km/h that when you get up along side for a few seconds you cant see the road…scarrrrrey stuff.

@Monday No hurricanes, cyclones, tsunamis just sweltering heat the palm trees are probably the only thing tropical ( maybe shipped down from queensland ) the place where we were is flat dry farmland but the beaches are fantastic…white sand

when my mate sends me pics of the car finished I will post

#1040

awesome to still see you guys working away at this

Haha, yeah, we are still working on it. I will speed up the proces in a couple of weeks. Then i wil hopefully have more time on my hands. So expect to see some cool stuff by then.

Ok, cool  I am looking forward to it. Man in holland every day is a thunder storm, haha. Well, at least it rains an awfull lot here.

And one more message for gunther. Gunther, i totally forgot about making the battleship sketches for you. It has just slipped my mind. But i will start working on it tonight!
