AE CS3 vs CS4

#1

I’m looking at picking up a copy of AE, and was wondering what if it’s worth it to purchase CS4, as CS3 can be gotten for much cheaper.

As far as what I’m going to be doing, it’ll mostly be in-house projects, so I don’t expect to need compatibility with others having CS4.

Basically is CS4 worth the extra money?

Thanks

It depends on what you’re going to be doing with it. Here’s a list of new and improved features in CS4:

Mocha is outstanding and is worth the price difference by itself if you do a lot of tracking for corner-pin (putting a sign on a wall or a custom screen on a cell phone, for instance).

Thanks for the reply…

Yes, Mocha does seem like it would be worth the extra money if you’re doing tracking. Also the multithreading stuff seems good.

Thanks

Ive found CS4 to be quite a lot slower in the viewport than CS3. quite dissapointing after laying down a large chunk of money. it renders faster thanks to better threading, but scrubbing through ram previews, manipulating masks is all slower. ive done the update to the latest patch, using the check for updates feature in the menus, but didnt notice anything different.

i get the same behaviour with OpenGL on or off. i use a Quadro FX 3700. is there anything im missing?

ive seen a few threads related to CS4’s slowness in comparison to CS3. does anyone else get the same?

thanks,

john.
