Advice on my Toplogy, Am I doing it correctly?

#1

Hello,

So I’ve run into a few problems when trying to get my toplogy correct and efficient and would like some advice from the forums, so if anybody’s willing to help me out it would be very helpful.

Firstly, this is part of a model I am working on where I have cut a hole into it, I’ve struggled with getting the topology correct and mainly don’t know where to put supporting edges/lines etc.

This is when I apply a mesh smooth, does this look correct?

And finally, I am trying to cut these 3 rectangle shapes into the mesh but have failed a few times, any advice on how to do this efficiently?

Thanks, your help would be greatly appreciated.

What’s the final shape you’re going for? Without knowing, there’s no way anyone can tell if it looks correct.

This is a separate part of the model.

Topology looks OK to me.

If you want to cut those 3 rectangle shapes into the mesh though it needs to have a higher poly count in general, or you will have trouble retaining the curvature of the outer rim and the hole.
