Advice on improving 'tech' form language.

Hey peoples,
I’m trying to gain the 'tech drawing skill, and am struggling to find the correct sketching style to communicate that really sleek tech look.

Attached is a quick 10 min sketch, haven’t taken anything to full render yet, more interested in the planning techniques and figuring out the interwoven parts.

Anyone who has nailed this, I’d love any advice or to look at development sketches!

Thanks!

What’s letting you down is your linework - lines need to be confident and clean.
Even with that very sketchy looking example you posted, if you look carefully, all the lines are only made once, and they are accurate.

Do you warm up before you start drawing - it will really help.

Hello, me again

I used your image as my own warm up this morning just to give you an idea of the difference single clear lines make - I’ll just say please remember this was a warm up, these lines should be a lot more confident but you’ll get the idea …

Another aspect I think you might need to think about is the actual geometry of your shape - am I wrong in thinking there was a little bit of ‘fudging’ about what goes where?

The drawing needs to be technically correct, as in, I could take it away and build something from it. If you find yourself shading stuff in, or not connecting lines, because you’re unsure of how two surfaces connect or how an angle resolves, then you need to go back and fix.

Hope this helps!
