I’m planning to upgrade my CPU/MoBo. The choise is between i7 6800k and i7 6850k. The major difference between this two cpus are lane number (28 vs 40) and clock speed(3.4 vs 3.6). The 6850k have a little advantage over 6800k in specs and about 150 EUROS in price. The typical tasks are simulations and cpu render. The graphics card is GTX 1070. I’m not planning to over lock it.
Is it worth to spend 150 euro in extra lane number and 0,2 clock speed?
One more question - do I need an extra cooler or the box cooler will be sufficient? I do not know if this cpus are shiped with box cooler.
Advantage of i7 6800K over i7 6850K

The additional lanes will only have an advantage if you have io intensive uses. Most of the time this is only important for server purposes.

hi there,
perhaps I am wrong, but don’t the extra lanes come in handy if you want have a third NVIDIA card in there one day? with 28 lanes you can only get two NVIDIA cards I was told on another forum.
