adobe illustrator - Convert Line width to curves?

#1

…Appologies for this post, but if anyone uses adobe illustrator
I have yet to find an answer to this:

adobe = ?
Xara = Convert Line (width) to shape
Corel Draw = Convert Outline to object

If there is an equivelent to this in illustrator, what is it called, and what are the steps to create it?

thanks

Not sure, but maybe the ‘blob brush’ in CS4 would be what you want.

well kinda…

What a ridiculous name!
no wonder I never found that function.
I don’t use illustraitor, but I have a project that does, and need a function like:

Xara = Convert Line (width) to shape
Corel Draw = Convert Outline to object

thank you for this, never heard of that brush before!

I don’t know those other things.

I wonder if you are looking for Object: Expand.

After which you may or may not want to ungroup and/or compound path release.

#5

just as easy in AI

Illustrator = object > Expand Appearance

the Blob Brush doesn’t really do the same thing

#6

Not familiar with the other packages, but this sounds like what Object -> Path -> Outline Stroke does in Illustrator. Or is this something different?
