how can i selectively correct only part of a composition using a mask. i tried a adjustment layer with a setMatte-effect, but as result the rest of the image gets cut away by the alpha.
i want to be able to stack adjustmentlayers in a row, so i easely find the ones i need. with nuke its possible to mask effects.

So it is in After Effects. Don’t use a Set Mask Effect but draw a mask on the adjustment layer. You may also use other layers alpha/luma valuse to mask things.
with the setmatte - effect the alpha/luma of another image is used to mask the adjustmentlayer. but i thought this would mean that the effects of the adjustmentlayer are only applied the parts of the underlying layer with alphavalue 1 leaving the rest untouched. but what happens is that effectively everything else is masked out by the alpha.

Adjustment layers affect everything below them, so even if you mask off part of the adjustment layer, every layer under the mask will get the effect.
If you just want to adjust a few layers you’re better off precomping them and apply the adjustment to the comp.
do you know any other way to manipulate parts of a comp easely ? hope i make myself clear here. e.g. you have rendered a car and you want to slap curves onto the carpaint, make the headlights contrastier …

I think I know what you’re after…
Put your matte/mask layer directly above your adjustment layer.
Then on the adjustment layer select “luma matte” under the “track Matte” options.
This will apply the adjustments only to the areas as dictated by your matte layer, but to all the layers beneath it…
