Adjust curves for AFTERBURN Particle rotation

#1

Im wracking my brain and going into overtime here trying to figure out how to get a better curve for this effect I am working on.

Currently, under the AFTERBURN adjustment tab under environment, I am trying to adjust the rotation of the particle shape. I have achieved this however, because of the curves, over the course of 100 frames you see the particles start out slow… then speed up… then gradually get slower again in their rotation.

I am under the track view dope sheet, where I can adjust the placement of the curves, but it wont allow me to make them linear… Or it will and I am just too big of a noob…

PLEASE HELP!

I am using 3ds MAX 2010

I assume you are just keyframing the Rotation X - LO value with the AFC Curve turned off?

Hold on, you need to explain the steps you used to get the rotation, as there a few different ways to do it and depending upon what you did, a different solution may be necessary.

Thanks for responding.

Basically to achieve the rotation effect I am in the afterburn tab under enviroment, and under the object settings I am adjusting the rotation. What I believe its doing is not actually rotating the particle, but rather the “puff” effect or the noise texture on the afterburn cloud.

Oh and yes, I am keyframing it.

Man it has been a while since I have used afterburn

Ok here is a scene with two methods

The first is Afterburn Keyed Rotation, this is what I am geussing you did. You can change the out-of-range types in the Track View manually. Not sure what is wrong with you setup. You can either post it and I will look at it or you can email it to me, if you prefer.

The Second uses the AFC Curve and Particle Age, when you use the AFC Curves your out-of-ranges are typically controlled within the AFC window.
