adding detail without affecting base mesh?

Does Modo have (or will it have?) a way to add details in models without increasing the base mesh topology or polygon count?

Zbrush has a projection master feature for this, in Max I use Vray displacement to add some details the same way. Does modo offer anything to do such a thing? If not, is that something we can expect to be on a later release anytime soon?

no modo dont have displace map … yet (i thing) but u can make it in other programs …
