Hi Solomon, thnks for your tutorial, it really help me!!!
Sorry I reply late.
A way to charge preanimated objects to vue?
Victor, I see only the 3DSMax Exporter on the E-On website. I don’t think a Cinema 4D exporter is available yet.
No indeed it sounds like it isn’t. I’ve been in contact with e-on about this and other problems in xtream and c4d, they have sent me a 6.60 292500 beta update, but there is no support for importing from c4d, but they claim that the texture problems have been fixed when importing vob and 3ds from c4d - haven’t had a chance to try it yet.
Thanks Al.
Q) It sounds like you’re an XStream user. Could you explain how XStream works with Cinema?
Q) Can I use Cinema 4D’s render engine to render my animation or am I stuck using Vue’s render engine? My only interest in XStream is if I can render with Cinemas (faster) render engine?
Q) I’ve heard placing items is difficult because they aren’t really there or can’t be seen in real time. Could you explain? and do I have to have Vue and Cinema running at the same time?
Q) What if I want to move an object in Vue or repopulate the lanscape. Is this done in Vue interface or in Cinema?
Q) Please explain your most frustrating part of using XStream? What do you find most difficult or time consuming? I don’t want it to be totally slow and cumbersome if you know what I mean!
Thanks
Yes I used Infinite for quite some time now, but only just recently crossgraded to eXtreme. I’m new to C4D, so I am finding my feet at the moment. Extreme can be used as standalone just like Infinite. But it also works as a plugin for C4D. In C4D you simply go to plugins, and open the eXtreme panel which can be docked, or used as a HUD etc. It contains several buttons for controlling eXtreme, and changing various options for it’s integration.

Yes I think so. I use netrender with C4D, and I’m working through some issues with e-on that they claim are not normal with other users regarding network rendering with extream as a plugin. However, the idea is that C4D treats the Vue atmosphere as a volumetric material. As with anything volumetric, it does take longer to render. It also creates some problems. For example, you can’t use C4D’s piroclastics in a scene in which Vue is included. e-on are looking at ways of fixing that and other issues.

OK as I say, I am working on some issues that I’m having with e-on support at the moment. That means that I haven’t had a chance to really play around too much yet. However, in the C4D viewports you can see all the elements from your Vue scene. By default the Vue camera is the main camera in C4D - you can change that though. When you want to edit your Vue scene you click on the “show extream interface” button in C4D, and that opens the Vue interface (very quickly). In the Vue interface, you can only see elements from your Vue scene. You can make your changes and close the interface and carry on working in C4D. In C4D you also get buttons for opening the atmosphere editor with out opening the Vue interface.
Q) What if I want to move an object in Vue or repopulate the landscape. Is this done in Vue interface or in Cinema?
It’s done in Vue. In C4D just click the show extream interface button, and BAM!! there you are in Vue. You can’t see any of the C4D objects in Vue though.

Apart from the fact it doesn’t work? LOL Well it does work, I’m just having a few problems at the moment mainly to do with network rendering and Vue licences not behaving right. Because of that I haven’t tried to create any complicated scenes, and so, I’m not very experienced with it yet. One thing that I can’t work out, is how to disconnect a C4D scene from extreme once you have included an extreme scene. I’m sure it can be done, but I haven’t figured it out yet. Most of my frustrations with extream are the same ones I had with Infinite - lack of information/help resources etc. The fact that you can’t see your C4D objects within the Vue interface isn’t a problem. You can see everything in the C4D interface. Vue crashes quite a lot in standalone mode, so I’m sure it won’t be any different in extream mode - so save often. Your Vue scene can be saved in your C4D project file which is good. But you can not import obje4cts from C4D in C4D format (because Maxon haven’t made the format public). You can though import obj and 3ds from C4D to Vue, but last time I tried the textures didn’t import. e-on say they have fixed that in the next beta update - I haven’t tested yet.
All in all, I think extreme should be useful in C4D when I get it working right. There are some limitations, but e-on are working at making it better. In Vue you can make landscapes and environments very fast and to a high quality. You can in C4D, but it would take ages, your plants would be rigid, and the skies are no way near as realistic. So the fact that you can use extream to get that in C4D is great. But it does take time to render, just as it does in Vue - the more realistic, the longer it takes. The interaction between C4D and extreme seems to be ok. If you use C4D and you use Vue, then having extream in your arsenal makes sense.
Victor, I don’t want to hijack this thread. I hope you don’t mind if I ask al35mm a few more questions.
al35mm, thanks for the detailed reply. i really appreciate all of the info on XStream as I am thinking of buying in the future.
If you rendered the same scene in Vue and then rendered it in C4D do you think it would take just as long in C4D?
About the cameras. OK so the Vue camera is the default, but if I have a Vue scene in C4D can I ignore the Vue camera and create a C4D camera and position it where I want it and will I be able to see and render that scene using the C4D camera?
Yeah that’s a good point. So I use XStream to import a Vue scene into C4D. Do I save the file as a Vue file (.vue) or a cinema 4D file (.c4d). Let’s say I saved the scene as a C4D file and I opened it up 6 months or a year later and I didn’t have XStream loaded would the scene (the Vue landscape) be missing or is it somehow embedded in the C4D file?
Q) You said something about not being able to use C4D models in Cinema 4D with XStream. If I have a Vue scene in Cinema 4D can I build or us a cinema 4D model in Cinema 4D with the XStream landscape?
Q) One concern is placing objects. You said you can see everything in Cinema (the landscape and the C4D objects) but what if I have a building in Cinema 4D with planters around it and I want to add flowers to the planters, then it sounds like it’s a bit of a guessing game to place the vue plants in the Cinema 4D planters as you can’t see the planters in Vue. This sounds like it would be a pain in the butt. Have you found this to be a problem or can you see it being a problem?
Q) Finally, personally I’d rather animate in Cinema 4D so if I have an Vue XStream landscape in C4D I would like to know if I can set up and use the Cinema 4D cameras and animate in Cinema 4D? Would that work in you opinion.
Thanks al35mm, I realize these are a lot of questions and you aren’t an E-On employee LOL but this is helping greatly!
Thanks!
