3dsmax user trying to use modo :P

#1

Hi all, being a Max user only for 10 years, I´m starting with modo, and I´m having some serious problems with the interface, I still don´t know how to do basic things, my mainly problems is with the shortcuts, This is a list with the commands I use a lot, If somebody can help me with the shortcut key or the command name to asign a key with be really helpfull. the text in red are the most important things.

-change the view faster, front, top, left, persp (using shortcut)
-Arc Rotate view (rotate the view like the max arc rotate mode) (using shortcut)
-zoom in, out, and zoom extend. (using shortcut)
-SELECT AND MOVEEEE!! plz, how I do this in one step??? I have to press Q to select and W to move everytime…
-merge vertex. TARGET WELD!!

  • switching betweek subd (meshsmooth), managing iterations, show end result like max. (I read something about using shit-tab and + / - keys.
  • cut polys, edges.

I guess with that I can start to do something, for know I can only make a box a destroy it

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english!

Have you looked at the manual/tutorials? All your questions are covered in modo’s included training materials…

There’s a default pie-wheel for views

The navigation tools are real simple and covered in the first coupla tuts

The Element Move tool allows you to select and move with one tool (just verts, edges or single polys though)

There’s merge vertex and weld vertex tools

Switching between sub-d’s/polys is a single keypress

Cut, copy and paste is where you’d expect them to be…

Sorry to be cryptic but this is all stuff I figured out in the first few minutes by reading the manual…

thanks aegis, but my question is focused to how a 3dmax user can adapt easyly to modo, I already know some of my own questions, like alt-c , alt rotate, the tools, etc. But I´m trying to find a 3dmax user who knows some confortable ways to reasing keys or use modo in a similar way to max. sorry for not be clear in my previous post. And thanks again.

Who says you have to SELECT before moving stuff, wouldn’t that be a slow-down considering workflow?

Seriously put, moving everything on the screen requires only to press w (w and W are not the same, w is Move 3D and W is Vertex Map Weight) and then just drag around. To move only elements, use element move (t) which works by just clicking, no need to select anything in advance.

omg, w and W are different?? thats is really confusing…
thanks for the tip, I will check it tonight!

I´m not joking… I got confused because he said w and W, not shift+w. I thought that modo react from the caplock key status… obviously not…

well, some tips for max user key configuration.

-Disable Trackball Rotation, on the viewport menu, and you can rotate more like the Arc Rotate tool.
-Put on the Z key “viewport.key”
-Put on Shift+W “viewport.maximize”
