3dsmax Image in floating UI for rigging and jaw follow morphs

#1

Hi,
I’ve been looking into facial and character rig’s, and I’ve come across 2 things that I’m having trouble figuring a way around without third party plugins.

The first is the Image Reference in a floating toolbar / UI that let’s the animator pick objects defined on a character sheet (Image attached). My question is, how do you add an image to a floating toolbar like that, and how do you assign what area of the image chooses what in the scene? I’m really curious how that is setup properly.

My second question is how can you (Without Morph-o-matic plugins) link a bottom or top set of teeth to go along with morph target’s, If I use the spline morph facial rig method, the mouth open and close morph targets don’t really allow enough control to rig the bottom teeth and tongue to follow properly. I understand some people use a bone to control opening and closing and moving the jaw, but I would think there may be a simpler way with perhaps a short script, or a link to vertex method I’m not aware of.

Anyone with any advice is welcome to steer me in the right direction  thanks!!

You can create a point helper and use tha attach contraint, that will make the helper
Follow whatever vertex you chose from the main object, you can then parent the lower teeth to the helper… Hope that helps!

AWESOME!@!

I ended up using the Position -> Attachment controller, then using Mesh Select and the “Face” sub object to get the face id of the poly I wanted, and then setting the FaceID in the attachment constraint, work’s awesome!

Thanks metamesh

Attaching teeth… well there is (was) the tutorial somewhere on the internet about that topic… as far as I remember you need to attach all parts (teeth, eyebrows etc.) in the same order to all corresponding targets and they should be named properly… 01, 02, 03,… etc, it’s a bit confusing but try to find that tutorial…

Use a bone for jaw and link teeth to them, even if you are using morph targets when u are trying to create UI for face. Its fast and better than to make each target for all expressions.
About GUI, get into scripting.
