3dsmax costume rig and animation layers problem

#1

hi everyone
i really got stuck on this problem and would be very grateful if any one can
point me in the right direction (tutorials or examples would be better :hmm: )

so the problem is :
i made a costume rig in max
that uses allot of controllers and scrip[ted controllers

when it got to the animator he tried using the max built in animation layer system
and it broke the rig
all the controllers wouldn’t work

is there a correct way of setting up the rig control objects so they can work with the max animation layer system ???

Animation layers can be a little confusing sometimes. I know that an object can have it’s own separate controllers only for that layer- if you made a new layer and made a lookat constraint it would take only be active on that layer. I think it works by making something similar to a position list or rotation list.

If you check out the motion tab with a controller selected you should be able to see the layers, and which constraints are applied to each layer. That might make it a bit easier to diagnose the problem.

hi,
first you divide your animation plan, which part you want to put I to different layer. like if you put pelvis and legs in a layer and upper body in layer-2 and hands in layer-3. now put the controllers you need to have in those layers and check the motion panel make test movements then you move into your main animation.
