3ds Max x64 Physics Alternative

#1

So is there a physics or dynamics solver alternative (other than Reactor) for the x64 realm for Max?

I’m working with 3ds Max 2010 x64, and have no intentions of moving to the x86 version just for dynamics solving. I’m sure SOMEONE has had to come up with something for x64 Max users.

Thinking Particles, Particle Flow Box #2 (actually uses PhysX on 64bit already), PDI, DMM. Plenty of alternatives. Ah, and the 64bit Physx is out, and it will soon be updated on the host apps.

in approx. 1 week you will be able to download physx for max x64 @ the nvidia page.
Second beta is out and ETA is 1 week…

Pulldownit plugin is available for both 32 and 64 bits

Hmm I’ve never heard of using Thinking Particles for dynamics work. Are there any tutorials anywhere to help with this process? I’m going to try to download a trial version to see if it’s what I want.

Go to the movies, see ‘2012’ - that’s Thinking Particles’ dynamics  And tutorials - there is gonna be some soon, I’m recording a DVD!

#7

Haha yeah I saw 2012. But TP has been out LONG before that movie came about, so I thought there’d be something lying around, but ok lol. What are you covering in the DVD and what is the price of it?

#8

It’s a very ambitious DVD and it’s gonna cover practically all the aspects of TP. All the details like the actual release date and prices will be announced soonish

@Glacierrise: Make a good price and the dvd is buyed :buttrock:

Yeah that’s the idea

Well maybe thinking particles has been used for some shots in 2012, but the most amazing effects has been done by Digital Domain using “Drop”, an in-house tool based on bullet physics,

Bullet is still not in Max but in Cinema4D and Maya, the only tool I have found in Max able to compete with bullet physics is definetivley pulldownit plugin.

Yes, the sequence Digital Domain did was fantastic, however just to clarify, 3 of the other studios (who worked on 3 other main sequences) did use Max and Thinking Particles for dynamics and particle effects, which means that “most shots” were not done using “Drop”.
