Lighting & Rendering a Vehicle

Tutorial Series : 6 Parts : (We are concentrating on applying shaders rather than using texture maps for this one)

Our in-house artist is supplying the model for you to work on.

  1. We need to know if you can accept a .max file as the uncollapsed mesh will be much easier to apply materials to and will have all of the smoothing on.

  2. You will not be following a 3dsmax version this time as the new 3dsmax guy will be creating this tutorial alongside you. And anyway, you will pretty much end up writing this specifically for your software anyway and would not really need to follow another artist.

Each month we will require:

  1. Text in a word / wordpad document (no images) with references to the images in the format of Fig01, Fig02 etc. This is for layout reasons and needs to be labelled like this in order to savea great deal of time in the layout process. Each time you write text for a new image the text starts a new section eg:
“1. Next we will apply the chrome texture to our mesh…etc…etc…see Fig01…”
Note that the Section number (1) will always be the same as the Fig number (Fig01). This is a safeguard so that we dont get the wrong image with the wrong text, and saves us having to throuroughly check all 5 tutorials each month. We would like each month to be around the same length as the average swordmaster part, so go into as much or as little detail as is required for the section. We have split it up like this as magazine sales are increased if they are left waiting for the next part

  2. Images, jpeg format, approx 4:3 size with tool bars / settings windows included etc. There will be the same format as swordmaster, 2 images to a page apprx 125x115mm in size so that they will be clearly seen. You do not have to resize your images, just send the full size ones to us.

  3. All the items will be uploaded to our FTP (details to follow) so you will need an FTP client for this, cute ftp has a free version which can be used, or dreamweaver has a built in ftp.

  4. An invoice for your hours which will be around 10 per month. If you find that you are spending any more than this then you may be going into more detail than neccessary. After 12 months of producing these tutorials we have found that this is approximately how much time is required and we have budgeted accordingly. The job pays $15 usd per hour, for 10 hours per month.

  5. All text and images will need to be uploaded and complete by the 20th of each month, in order for us to have sufficient time for layout and proofing.

The Parts are as follows:

  1. Applying Materials & Shaders Part 1(Jan 2007)
  2. Applying Materials & Shaders Part 2 (Feb 2007)
  3. Lighting Setup & Rig (with hdri) Part 1(Mar 2007)
  4. Lighting Setup & Rig (with hdri) Part 2 (Apr 2007)
  5. Rendering Part 1(May 2007)
  6. Rendering Part 2 (Jun 2007)

Thanks again.
