3D Rope - Urgent Question!

#1

Hi, I have to make a curved pipe for a job. In Photoshop can I draw a line and then make it look 3D. I have CS only!

It has to look like it is 3D similar to the image posted.

Also does anyone know if this is possible to do in Illustrator as-well-as Photoshop?

Thanks

In photoshop CS - no, In Illustrator - maybe. I know that you can extrude or lathe shapes in Illustrator but nothing really that would be able to extrude along a path (which is called loft). So you can have cylinder and maybe you can liquify it in Photoshop - but the results would depend on you. You may as well draw it.

Your best bet would be to download a free app like Blender or even wings3d… Or even a trial version of 3Ds Max.

EDIT

I found these tutorials on 3D tenticles - although not exactly what you were asking for they might get you close.

Why wouldn’t you just use C4d?

Yes - you could if you had C4D, he said he only had Photoshop CS. He also didn’t indicate he had the money or time to learn a new application which is why I posted links to those tutorials.

Although under his signature it has 3D artist - not sure why he would want to keep it all in Photoshop… Strange.

Ok, I’d better stop any rumours before they start. Yes I have C4D and Yes C4D was my first choice to solve this problem. The fact is that the job is considerably more difficult in C4D for this problem than it would be most times as I have to camera map the image to make it work etc. I can’t explain any more but if i could draw a stroke in illustrator and then make it appear as a 3D object it would make my life mich easier.

Anyways I have actually made it work osmewhat in Cinema 4D but an solution in Illustrator would have been easier!

Thnks to all!

Suzy, I recognize BuzzFX from the C4D forum, that is why I knew he had C4d, and is well versed with it.
