Title: 3D Printed Star Wars Speeder

Name: Zachary Brackin

3D printed from my 3D model. Used a Form2 3D printer, 202 parts. 1/10th scale. Uses an Arduino to control lighting and OLED screen. Can link to a mobile app I made to control the lighting wirelessly.

I honestly can’t tell if these are photos of the model shot on glass or renderings. could you add a photo with a ruler in it for scale reference?
There’s a Dallas competition with a 3d printing category open to animators - entries due Fri, Oct 13. Based on last year’s winner, you have a serious shot.

Professional Eligibility
Each entry must have been executed while entrant is a professional in architecture or in related fields (architectural illustrator, educator, engineer, cg animation)

Here’s a scale reference:

Thanks for the link, though it looks like that competition is really wanting stuff related to architecture. There’s probably some other local 3D printing competitions though, I’ll have to keep an eye out. Might go to an IPMS show.

Fantastic work! I do have have a little question if you don’t mind.
Because the finished model has a very very smooth surface, did
you sanded the parts after printing and then airbrushed them?

Yes, I sanded the parts as much as I could, I also separated some parts to make it easier to sand some areas where otherwise it would be difficult to get into a corner. The engine parts mostly aren’t sanded since that would remove details. For the body I also used plastic polish after painting to get it even smoother.

For the windshield it was printed in clear material, when it comes out it has a frosted look because the part is made of stepped layers, so I had to carefully sand that to make it clear again as much as possible, took probably 3 hours of sanding from 240 grit to 20,000 grit. I also used mineral oil to help it a bit more.
