Well,

I’m sure you went to Conitecs forum and got some infos their, did you?

http://3dgamestudio.com

I have 3DGS 5.5 extra. 3DGS has some strong points. What I like so much is

  1. The script language, powerfull and easy to learn
  2. The world builder
  3. With version 6 the script editor
  4. The manual, really worth the time to read
  5. The forum, huge userbase at all levels
  6. The SDK to extend the functionalities
  7. No distribution fee for commercial creations

What I don’t like:

  1. The model editor is to limited, but it is great to have one to start with
  2. The cost for the commercial/Pro version
  3. That shaders are only supported with Pro

Some people say that the render pipeline of 3DGS is dated (DX8.1) but in my opinion with great art you won’t notice. If you are going after shaders and have a good knowledge of C++ then should look look further forsomething like the TSE. 3DGS has all tools you need together, that is great. So you will get something displayed in a very short time. But it’s like with everything. It can only be as good as you are. Surf on their forums, look at projects that are done with it. Download demos. That will give you the best overview.

In the demo all the models are not textured and it’s very hard to get a good idea of how the thing really looks in action. Is this a demo thing or was it just my machine or is thier some setting that actually turns the textures on?

first hear of it now … but why don’t you just take the eg Quake 2 Engine and make your FPS/RPG/whatever with this one?

#5

Where are the models not textured? Inside a builded game or inside the 3D view of the model editor? There you have to set the view mode to textured or so I think.

#6

HOw much is the quake engine and can you import models from max or maya into it?
