Hi everyone, Im currently working on a 2D animation movie, and i am have a problem regarding the line art of the 3D models. Im working on Maya , the models are all done, so i tried mental ray contour and Maya’s toon rendering options. Both methods didnt achive the result Im looking for, something in the style of sylvain chomet films . here are some examples:

The lineart is irregular matching the style of hand drawing, if some one knows how to achive this style i would really appreciate your advice, this is the closest i got

I dont know about maya, but in max you can put maps into your lines (i would suggest using the mr line in maya) and be able to vary the width that way, although it is going to be pretty hard to get something to look like the reference that you posted.

What you could try and do is render out the lines and then try and do some post process in comp to make it look good, using 3d camera space and displacements perhaps?

Otherwise you could render out your animation, and then manually rotoscope it by hand. This would be a lengthy process, but likly look the best.
