2 different texture for shattering?

#1

Hi all, I am in the midst of doing a shattering scene but I have encountered some problem which is the texture of the models.

Before that, I have model out a simple tree and am using a sphere to hit right thru it so as to create the shatter effect. As we all knows that the exterior of the tree - the bark area (brown color) is different from the interior (slightly yellowish in color), is there any ways for me to have 2 different sets of textures?

Otherwise, would this means I will have to texture each and every piece of the cut up mesh I have done individually?

Thanks in advice for any help…

in 3DSmax you can easily use material ids to make this work. You would need to create 2 materials, one for bark, one for wood interior, and then apply the material appropriately to the outside and inside of the tree.

Hi Aaron, thanks for getting back to me.

However, is this possible in Maya?

Perhaps someone more familiar with maya could help, but I found this thread and it may point you in the right direction:

Vray has 2 sided texture. I’m not sure if mental ray has similar shader. There is this old trick if you want to give it a try

I’m more familiar with the one using blend.
