2.5 A2 Viewport Alpha - Help needed.

#1

I’m trying to set up viewport alpha. The texture I’m using is a 32bit Targa file.

[ul]
I can see my texture in the viewport using the GSLS shading option.
In the Materials Shading option I tick, shaderless.
In the Texture’s Image Sampling option I tick, Alpha: use.
[/ul]

It seems to recognise the Alpha in the texture but makes it opaque white, not transparent. I really need it to be transparent for the project I’m working to to line up meshes correctly.

Is it possible, am I going about it the wrong way, or is this a limitation of 2.5 A2?

Many thanks in advance.

first: are you the same guy who asked me via skype the same thing the other day?
if yes, why didn’t you continue asking?
if not here it is:

a blend with example material/texture with view port alpha via glsl:
http://www.pasteall.org/blend/2351

you have to enable glsl in the properties panel in the 3dview in the display tab
Material:
turn on z transparency
set alpha to 0
tick shadeless
Texture:
map_to alpha
and probably premultiply the image

I think atm getting transparency in the view port is only possible via glsl
because the texturefacetsetting from the old 2.49 gametextureoptions aren’t back yet.
But i could be wrong about that.

Thank you for the advice, will test it first thing in the morning.
Btw, it was not me on skype.

========

OK I’ve tried the setup, thanks for the sample scene that was very useful.

I still have one remaining problem (which i may be able to live with) and that seems to be a blending issue when there are multiple objects overlapping.

Any ideas how to remedy this?

Using a simple work around to limit the blending artefact’s for now.
Just using a higher resolution version of the texture.

Not ideal but allows me to position the limbs correctly.

Wow, thats is a cool lil’ character, love the belly.

thanks fktt. He might get an outing somewhere in the future!

I’ve had to knock using 2.5.A2 on the head for now, just doesn’t work well in enough to get a project done. The FBX exporter isn’t playing ball so it’s time to get stuck into 2.49b

My Blender adventure continues
