Zorn Master Copy- Mona., Theresa Ryan (2D)

Title: Zorn Master Copy- Mona.
Name: Theresa Ryan
Country: Ireland
Software: Photoshop

Here’s a master copy I produced in the ODFW 17 under the fantastic tutelage of Rebecca kimmel. Here’s the original image:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/rebeccak5/OFDW%20017/04_Zorn_Mona.jpg

While doing this, I’ve gained a new respect for the masters- they have a lot of sneaky tricks up their sleeves and they like to utilse them in ways that you wouldn’t even notice, but which make a huge difference overall, particularly with subtle colour choices and complementary shades… I learned a lot while doing this and I’m glad I did it. Having said that, I’m glad I’m finished now- that sleeve was starting to drive me insane.
So, here you go! I hope you like looking at it as much as I enjoyed working on it.

so nice! very analog in it’s feel. feels like one could blow the pastel dust right off it! great work again.

Clippy!

I think this is a fantastic piece and you’ve really topped yourself here. You’ve always had such enormous potential and it’s great to see everything come together in this picture. Keep up the hard work and you will be giving folks a run for their money!

Cheers,

Excellent. The texture is perfect. Aren`t that brown -orange shadows on her front a little over - saturated? Anyway you did make a great job. I love it.

Hey Theresa,

I am so impressed with your determination to give this round after round of refinement! It paid off as this is anabsolutely intruiging mastercopy.

Looking forward to your future pieces now!

Real nice work. Only thing that still really stands out to me is the overly distinct edges between her left hand and the bundle of veges she’s holding. Other than that, lovely colors, and nice brushwork.

Reply time!

Orbital: You have no idea how many people have asked me whether it’s digital or analogue- I spent quite some time with pastels, so that could be a reason why it’s like this.

Matellis: You can talk, mr. front page! Thank you though.

Rebecca: That means a lot to me. Thank you and don’t worry, I’ll never give up- I’m Tenacious T, remember?

Dubnicky: Zorn is interesting in that he has great control over the saturation levels of his paintings- some parts are incredibly saturated and others not so much. It’s very hard trying to match up all the colours…

Marlon: thanks!

Dawinky: Master copies are like sweden: many layers. (some who read this might get the joke…)

Mu: thank you.

Teck: shhh…that edge doesn’t exist. we never spoke. see you on irc!

Ikaa: I love zorn too, his stuff is incredible, the guy really knows his stuff and I’ve learned tons from copying this- mostly to do with balancing colours and values. Master copies are an excellent training tool for the eye and brain, I suggest everyone does one at some stage.

Abyssis: Thank you… it’s a good one, isn’t it? I liked the colours and felt in the mood to do a bright and cheerful one.

Hi Theresa,

I’m impressed, really a great job.
I haven’t seen the rest of your latest work since I last visited the forum ( a few month ago ) but I can tell by this painting that your skills have improved a lot.
You’ve done this in PS? Give Painter a try (like I am doing :) Maybe it’s a bit intimidating at first but I’m sure you’ll like it.
