Zooming Issues?

#1

I posted this at the Luxology MODO forum as well, but thought I may get a faster reply here. Here is what I posted:

It seems that I cannot zoom in as close to my models as I can in LW. It is quite hard to fine tune some points because of this.

If I open the same file in LW that I am working in MODO, I can zoom all the way in, but MODO stops quite a good distance away.

Not sure if this is a graphics card issue or I need to enable/disable something. I am running a Quadro FX 500 graphics card.

Yeah, I have tried all that.
Sometimes I have had little issues like you describe and it works. Right now however, I am modeling an item and have even started a new item with a simple sphere and it is the same thing. I cannot get in close enough.

I think I figured it out to be a scaling issue. I was following a LW tutorial and the model backdrops were to be scaled at 540mm, but I had mine at .54 inches.
Now at a larger scale, everything is fine. I guess MODO did not like my model so small. LW took it fine though at this very small scale.

I have tried it with other items as well.

If I model a fly for example at full scale of about 1/4 inch with backdrops, MODO does not like zooming in very well of things this small.

Hover the mouse over the geometry you want to look at and hit ‘g’. That recenters the zooming. You can then zoom more.

Eric, but even so there is a limit, no? seems to be 200um. I recently did a model of a small game console that had some very small details on it. I eventualy just modeled the whole thing at 10x scale then scaled it back down when I was done.

Hello All,
I to found all the above to be a familiar problem, likewise in Lightwave.
What I do is to sellect a point/vertice in the local area and then to press SHIFT A to automatically fit zoom into that area. If anyone has any other suggestions.
It would be welcomed.
