ZBrush to Mudbox without displacement map

#1

Hi

I’m searching for a way to bring a ZBrush model into Mudbox, without loosing details or lower subdivision levels. My problem is, that I’m on a Mac and can’t export usefull displacement map. Cause of that, I can’t use the method which Wayne shows in one of his videos.
I have tried the following:

  1. imported the base level from ZBrush into Mudbox
  2. divided the model in Mudbox to the the same level as in ZBrush
  3. imported the highest level from ZBrush into Mudbox as a layer
Unfortunatly the model “exploding” after that. Probably because Mudbox and ZBrush gives the vertecies different IDs when subdividing.

Does anyone knows a solution?

Thanks in advance!

The first thing that came to my mind was what you have done. but you dont need to import the high poly version as a layer.

  1. import the low poly and high poly versions as objects to mudbox
  2. then create a disp map in mudbox between those two meshes
  3. use that displacement map to displace the low poly version

Hope this helps

The video at the bottom of this page on MudboxHub gives one of a couple of possible ways of doing this.
