ZBrush Memory Leak?

#1

So I’m using ZBrush 4R7 and I get a system error that I’ve run out of system memory. I’ve got 64GB of Ram and ZB was consuming over 60GB’s before I shut it down. This was while sculpting a 20 million poly model.

Never seen this before. Memory Leak?

This has little to do with tech/HW, it’s SW specific.
Moving it to the ZBrush forum. You might also want to specify what platform and OS version, and whether it’s the 64bit beta (should be given it’s overshooting 4GB) or something else.

ZBrush 4R7 64 bit
Mac Pro
12 Cores
64GB Ram
OSX 10.10.3

You also need to specify your scene and what you was doing. Doing brush strokes on a single subtool composed of 20 millions of polygons than projecting 20 millions of polygons on a 20 millions of polygon mesh, with an history already at its maximum (10 000 undo steps), etc…

Then depending of what you are doing, 64 Gb of RAM may be simply not enough… That’s why you need to give more information about what you was doing, your scene, etc.

Oh its nothing special that I’m doing. It would literally be nothing more than a paint stroke, a revolution in the viewport etc.

But I’m finding that it’s not just ZB. It’s looking like an OS X issue because the same thing is happening in Safari. A Safari service was using up 30GB’s of Ram and that is insane for anything in Safari, I don’t care how complex the website is.

So back to the tech/HW forum? lol

Yes, I’m afraid that something is going wrong on your OS/hardware…

FYI, I’m working with a 32 millions poly model, using with some Match Maker projection and alphas and ZBrush is using 4.3 Gb of RAM. And with multiple tools and subtool loaded.

ZBrush 64-bit is a beta. I recommend you file a bug on Pixologic’s support page. I doubt it’s hardware related

It hasn’t happened again since that “fateful” day.
