XSI 7 locks up

#1

I installed XSI 7 at work and it run fine. After a while, 10 minutes or so, my scene freezes and I’m forced to shut it down through the Task Manager. I have the latest Nvidia drivers for my GeForce 7900 GS, as well as Directx 9c.

I also have XSI 7 installed at home without any issues, running a 8600 Nvidia card. Both my work and home computer runs a dual monitor setup, same resolution.

Anyone else have this problem or possibly a solution?

Thanks!

well since you ask… I have the same problem. Sorry I dont have a resolution. I thought I might pipe up here and see if I can get a following to help resolve this. I have a GeForce 8500 with driver ver. 175.19, DX 10. I think you might be running the same driver version as me if you have the latest for your 7900.

I am running XSI 7. Vista 32 Ultimate. Intel Q6600 W/ 4 GB ram. XSI freezes after the third or fourth time I open the UV editor and the same when I open a Image node with a thumbnail. If I do not do either of the afore mentioned items I can safely run XSI without any problems. Ver 6.5 works fine. I have searched XSI Base and CG Talk as well as good 'ol Google for a resolution. I have reinstalled Vista then my video drivers, then XSI and still have the problem.

Cheers

some drivers have a problem with the Image widget, (the one that hangs on the PPG).
I don’t know any solution for that as I personally never got this problem.
I run a geforce 8800 at home and a quadro at work, both working perfectly.

This issue with XSI freezing when it’s idle happened to other users, I suggest you make a search on XSIbase, theres a thread about that…
Or on community site, don’t know which one anymore.

Hopefully, this is just a driver problem.

Just a few things you could try…

  • go in the Nvidia control panel and check if your V-sync is set to application controlled
  • the performance optimization thing, try the different modes. Here it works best when set to “Multiple Display performance mode”. Specially if you have two displays of course.
  • check the “threaded optimization” in the Nvidia control panel too, I heard people solving issues when turning that on. Try on/off anyway
  • I dont know anything else you can try, but different driver version? maybe?

I tired various driver versions with little success.

I looked in the Nvidia Control panel but I can’t find “threaded optimization” under Global Settings. Where is that located tc?

Thanks.

#5

I read somewhere (maybe Softimage|NET) that some folks had problems with XSI 7 and QuickTime 7.5. By any chance do you have QT installed?

Cheers,
Felipe

Inside of the Nvidia control thingy, you have 3d Settings, manage 3d settings, global settings.
This is how it shows up here.
Threaded optimization is set to ON here.

quicktime is a problem here too. Specially under vista.

#7

Thank you TC. “threaded optimization” to ON fixed my problem. 1000 thanks.

I’m going to install quicktime/itunes 8. Maybe that’ll help.

I’m looking at the 3D Settings, Manage 3D Settings, and Global Settings tab. But there’s no “Threaded Optimization” with a drop down that say’s either “On” or “Off”. Where are you seeing that?

#9

I attached a screen grab.

#10

Thanks for the screenshot, but I don’t have that option. :frowning: I have the latest drivers for my Nvidia 7900 CS card too… I just have an Intel 3.4, no dual or quad core at work. Maybe that’s why?

#11

I beleive you are correct.

i face the same thin too. I have a very low speced card, an ATI X550 though i’m getting a 4850 though i’m holding on till i know what will work with XSI.

Mine locks if you swap windows or leave it idle for ten minutes. I’m still not sure about using it for production though till this problem is stabilised.
