Xeon E2630 or Xeon E52650

Hello,

We are a studio working in 3DSMAX rendering in Vray and are looking into buying a render farm. For the configuration we are going for 4 nodes, each nodes has 2 processors, being 8 in total. Is the price difference between the XEON E5 2650 and XEON E5 2630 worth it (around 5000 €) Regarding the cores/threads (8/16 vs 6/12) and Clockspeed/Turbo speed (2,0/2,8 vs 2,3/2,8) and your experiences.

Any help would be much appreciated!

with kind regards

the 2650 at best will be about 15% faster at multithreaded rendering. In the real world though, performance doesn’t scale perfectly linearly and will likely be lower than what I just said.

I don’t know if that’s worth the money or if the money saved could be better spent buying an additional machine with 2630’s. It depends on your budget, number of machines you’re buying, and how many vray render licenses you have.
