In any case, you can download the student version and use that for 30days directly from Autodesk :bounce: So in the mean time while you wait, you can already get your feet wet

#9403

is it free? reason i ask is because every cent i have im saving to get what i need for the 18months. Right now i’m starving my self(not really but kinda) to save for this.

Because im from a lil island and we don’t have these opportunities here. So im doing everything i can to save and pay for school. :banghead:

From i was a kid i wanted to do this like everyone else in here. and im going for it!

#9404

Yup it’s free, and here’s the link http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?siteID=123112&id=13578047

Mind you as soon as the 30 days are up, you’ll either have to enter an activation code, or reformat your computer and reinstall it. You can’t just uninstall/reinstall as much as you like.

This should keep ya busy hopefully until you get your full version! which i’ll cross my fingers, will be soon

#9405

Thanks! Are you in the program? AM that is…

#9406

Yup I start in 1 week AHHHHHHH  it’s going to be brutal because I’m already working :banghead: But here’s to becoming a better animator

#9407

WOW! I envy you! Congrats! Have fun!

Do you have like a 9-5 job?

I hope u have time to keep us updated on your progress.

#9408

It might be hard but I’m going to try and do a blog. I’ve never done one yet so we’ll see if I can keep it up to date :stuck_out_tongue:

#9409

Well good luck! Ill keep you updated on my progress

Hey. If I were you I would consider getting something at tad faster. I had the exact same laptop and it gets kinda sluggish when animating most characters. If you can afford it, it might be a good decision to take the processors and ram up a notch. However If spending more money isn’t an option then you should be able to do just fine with this computer.

Regarding the student edition of maya. In order to purchase it from studica you’ll need to wait until you get a letter of acceptance from animation mentor (not just the email you get saying your in, but a letter with a student ID number, I believe it’s found in your AM account once that is setup). You don’t get that until about 3 weeks before your start date. Paying extra early won’t help you get it sooner.

Okay guys I’m a Winter 2010 student… I’m only 19 (Only a years worth of credit to my name which is all “good”) but I talked to the loan lady (I forget her name :frowning: Sorry if you’re reading this, loans lady!) and she says I would probably need a cosigner.

I found a cosigner who is turning 49 this year (plenty of credit history) who has gotten approved for house loans, car loans, and has good credit standing… Do you think if I have her as a cosigner I will get approved? … I hope?

#9412

Ok thanks Robert.

But do you think if i just upgrade the processor speed that would help for now? i can always update the ram later on.

OR even if i just update the ram later would that help?

#9413

I hear ya. I’m working anywhere in between 40-60+ hours a week. But I wouldn’t give this opportunity up for anything.

#9414

hey dren,

i’m almost 19 too, next monday it will be official lol. But i guess by the time i get to my first class you will be in the second cause i’m going to do the maya springboard. Good luck with the loan, im trying to do the loan thing with a coborrower as well i hope we both get approved!!

oh and thanks kangthemad, robertlavigne and redspective for the suggestive reading material!

#9415

Hey, I’m also 19 and doing the loan with a co-borrower! lol

#9416

Congratulation !!
For a webcam, you could consider any webcam really. They used to recommand the logitech orbit and the 9000 something, but they are all working well anyway.
for the graphic tablet, go with a wacom intuos 4 (no need to get the big one)

Happy Shopping !

#9417

sweetness:buttrock: lol

oh nd thanks chloedo for the webcam nd tablet info

ThinkDreamLive: yes, you do need to be formally registered to get the student discount on Maya. I think AM formalizes the student list a few weeks before the semester starts and then sends you the proof of enrollment, which you need to buy the software. I was already a student at community college before enrolling in AM, so that’s how I was able to get my copy early. However, when I bought it, only version 2009 was available. Now 2010 is out, but I’m glad I had the extra time to play around with the program since I’m a complete newbie and not taking the Maya springboard class. But here’s hoping they don’t require us to upgrade to 2010 before we graduate!!!

As for the tablet, I bought the cheapest Wacom since I’m on a budget. The Wacom Bamboo small. When I have more money, I’ll upgrade to the Intuos, but for animating in Maya the Bamboo is more than sufficient. And much cheaper!

#9419

Thanks! for your answer CG Girl. Im just thinking i might try to buy it my self from somewhere just incase so i can have the time to mess around with it as well.

So if i got the 2010 i would be fine?

#9420

I just really hope I can get approved because I don’t know what I’d do if I don’t lol

#9421

Hey Dren,

I know how you feel im waiting on them as well. The wait is killing me.
