Wrinkles and folds?

#1

Hi!

Is there a good practice for modelling wrinkles and folds you would see in cushions and clothes within XSI? I’m actually thinking of getting ZBrush later, but right now I would like to get this done in XSI, because learning ZBrush is going to take a while.

I was thinking about using weight maps and the push deformer, but are there better ways to do this? I’m talking about those larger wrinkles found on things like sofa cushions.

I saw a tutorial a long time ago (I think it was for modelling an Orc) where they described how to model wrinkles. Sorry I don’t have a link, but I’ll try to explain… Essentially, I think you want to select the edge that you want to place a wrinkle, and bevel it (round) so it has 3 edges. You’ll then have to adjust the end polys so they are quad shaped. Translate the middle edge inward.

Thanks,

That might work and I also figured that may be I should try a simple displacement map. It might work especially for those smaller wrinkles you tend to see running along the seams.
