Would using Zbrush be a cop out?

I have a renewed vigor to becoming better with 3d art/visualizations. Though I really do not want to pursue a career in just that. But more a way to supplement my income and skillset. With that being said I try to avoid things that are gimmicky or too easy. Not say Zbrush is gimmicky or easy at all, but I was wondering if I did go the Zbrush route for texturing and detailing would that hurt me in a long run by not learning some of the traditional texturing methods? I was considering just riding lightwave out and learning node texturing, UV mapping and sticking with that. But Zbrush looks soooo sexy at times. I do mainly stills and illustrations.

I am sorry if this has been hashed out before or this warrants the classic “Do what you feel” response. but I really would like folks to chime in with their opinion, expertise, experience and whatever else.

zbrush is away to add an insane amount of detail to your models with a low Polly count this is a tool for an artist so you can paint detail to ploys’ instead of pushing ploys’ to a compromise to what you envision. I’m still stuck inside of zbrush unable to get my creation out and into LW.

zbrush is immense fun and yeah you can get it out to other apps like lightwave etc…though in lw you’ll be more restricted to medium-high poly counts than insane high polys that z brush can do…even though with that you’ll get great things done with a combination of zbrush and lightwave for stills of your creations.

zbrush is best application that i ever tried and bought.
for me that i start like a traditional sculpt is a perfect companion for lightwave
