WIP wings mech

#1

Well i’ve been toying with wings3d for some time now and finally got to the point where I felt comfortable enough with it to try and make something lol. Feel free to laugh, I am:scream: Advice is welcome also. I havent tried any of the plug in renderers yet, this is just with the built in Wings3d renderer…

Thanks,i’ll have some updates soon. The one thing im trying to figure out how to do right now is are missle racks…anyone have any tips or advice?:arteest:

Howdy! I just finished a MECH I will try to explain the process I used on the missile rack.

Basically I created a new cube…extruded it out a few times…cut a few loops into it. Basically I tried to create a grid like face so I could make the holes for the missiles. Unfortunately I didn’t pay close attention to what I was doing so the missiles are quite right. Anyway I selected the polys the INSET them, SMOOTH once, then DISSOLVE. That gave me round holes. I extruded them inwards then while the polys were still selected I EXTRACTED the faces. Now I had a flat round poly in each hole and I EXTRUDED those, resized etc until I had a missile shape. That was pretty much it. I realize this may sound confusing. Let me know if you have trouble with it and I will try to put together a pictorial showing the steps.

Nice Job on that mech, Mentat. Just out of curiosity what did you use for the texture?

#6

Thanks Phoenix. Actually there is no texture on my Mech. The material is a DarkTree shader that was created iin Simbiont. Just two materials going on there…the yellow on the missiles and the greenish/blue on the rest of it. I applied the little numbers with photoshop. Everything else is done in C4D. I included DirtyNuts in the Diffusion channel of the material to help dirty up the shadows a bit. That’s pretty much it.
