WIP Portrait: Joey McIntyre

#1

Oh well, started of as a texturetest and then I wanted a character in the picture. My boyfriend suggested Joey McIntyre former NKOTB.

After much agony (my god the people who still likes that guy are weird, I swear I even found a page devoted to a religion around him) I founs thid picture:

The texturetest for the background

And then back to Joey

#4

he has really great eyes so make sure to portray that…i think ur doing very well so far!

#5

That was a hard one, did think he would be easy to paint, well, you live and learn

Does it look right?

Edit: forgot to mention that I’m using the exelent brushes Goro posted in the portraits speedpaint thread  love them

There we go, just small details left, thinking about changing the shadown and a smaller sidelight. But first, sleep

Very nice work. ^^

The bricks look a bit tiny with him in front of it. I’d suggest removing the drop shadow on the wall, to make more space between it and him - that would fix the potential scale problem. Although I really dig the cool way you’ve drawn the shadow. =)

In the closeup the nose looks a little lopsided, but then I looked more closely at the reference picture. O_o’’’ I would personally make it more symmetric, but I’d say it’s your call. For a full-quality portrait it’s a little detail-less, but for a character painting that’s not meant to be seen in closeups, it works.

The background texture is really nice. The only thing it lacks is some lighting to further define its surface texture - at the moment if feels a bit flat. But if you’re making textures for 3D these would probably be added as a bumpmap afterwards.

Update, still some details left.

So, this is what it currently looks like, I know the heart is a bit cheesy but I just thought it was a nice contrast to the “once a pop icon” and a backalley

#10

the eyes in the closeup aren’t the same size! I mean the blue part(whatever thats called)
also i think u should put more detail into his teeth and lips and the expression they create…
other than that, i think u nailed him

nice job!

#11

I dont want to have nailed joey…

Anyhow, thanks for the headsup, most things are fixed now, like nose and eyes, and I considder it finished
Cheers!

Although I can’t stand your subject, it still a wonderful photoshop job, faces are hard for me to do and you did well.

#13

Hey, thanks!

It was suggested to me that I’d make a semi nekkid girl instead so heres, Josephine McIntyre:

#14

And some closeups from it

#15

ahahaha Brilliant! XD
You made me laugh even though I was feeling blue over the death of Darrell. Thanks! =)

#16

Hi Alice! Really super work as always! My only 2 remarks besides “WOW!” are:

a) I think Joey’s eyes are a bit more or a saturated blue than your painting
b) in the female version, the right hand looks a little more masculine than the left

GREAT JOB! Love the light and texture!
