Hey,

My first real serious work with Wings.

Beautiful work! I take it from your other post that you’ve used Mirai?
I’d agree about Wings struggling with large meshes, especially on my slow machine! I’ve heard that Mirai suffers in the same way though, or is the slow down less marked in Mirai? - Baz

hey, this is without a doubt, a masterpiece… front page material if there ever was any… tut, tut, tut…

How long have you modeled? on any app… how long does it take for a noob like me to gain this experience?

You are an inspiratin to us all

Thanks for the comp!

Bazc,

Mirai does suffer a bit with heavy meshes, but in Mirai the interactively slows down, but in Wings there is a delay, an actual pause in the action. I also throw this mesh at Mirai to see how it handled it and it handled it without any slowdowns. You can also make parts in Mirai, assign selected faces into groups. In this way you can concentrate on a particular part, making the rest of the mesh hidden, it helps to speed up interactivity.

Ibox,

I’ve been modeling for a while, but I believe anyone can model well, as long as they pay attention to detail. I always start any modeling work with sketches, to work out the form, shape and gestures. It gives me a good working visual guideline to following. And if I get stuck on a trouble spot, I work it out on paper.

I was considering doing a tutorial, because I approach things differently than most of the subD/poly tutorial out there. I always start out with the box modeling method, to block form and shape, making sure my silouhete(did I spell that correct) works, then I go into what is called “sketch scuplting”. It is a mixture of techniques I gathered from Bay Raitt and John Feathers from the Mirai forum aways back. It is hard to describe or to understand from a static page. The best way to demo it is to put it on video.
The major benefit of the approach is “speed” and “execution”. The only app I have been able to employ the approach is Mirai, but now that I am getting more familiar with Wings I have been able to get some of the approach over to Wings. When I have more of a grasp of Wings I might do a VTM on it.

Well, I for one can hardly wait… I have just only recently caught on to the Loop thing and after practicing some I knows how important these things can be eh, like make it or break it important… to which, wow, what lovely loops this model has… so sweet…

So yea, anytime your ready to tutalage any of us lowly types, by all means… your humble student… IBox

and yea, a nude or not this deserves to be put on the page top eh… I mean give the guy the key to the city here folks… yowsers…

I’m really interested in your method don’t waste much time, grab camtasia and do it!:buttrock:

 ummm… Wow
Great model/modeling!

I’m with Xaint! Lez go man  hehe
I do think everyone here would be really psyched to see your skills in action

Thanks for the info tjnyc, Mirai is way out of my price range but it’s interesting to know how Wings compares :o)
If you can find the time to make the tut I’d be very interested. I ought to have a look at some more of BayRaitts and John Feathers tuts, I don’t really like video style tutorials because it’s difficult to tell exactly what the artist is doing. But to demonstrate a working style I can see it’s probably the best approach. Some written notes to accompany it might help those of us who aren’t so expert to appreciate what’s happening and the thought process that accompanies the modelling?
I’d be interested in seeing some more of your work, have you got a website? - Baz

Need more playing time with wings to figure out how to do certain things still. Mirai and Wings aren’t 1-1, so some things I haven’t been able to work out yet, but I we keep in mind about doing a good thought video tutorial.

Thanks very much! - Baz

Ditto

tjnyc,

Impressing model!

Regarding the pause, I did some optimization work in 0.98.15 to make it somewhat shorter.

I plan to add parts to Wings (as in Mirai), but it will probably be after 1.0.

Nice.

Thanks for the update Bjorn, Wings is a helluva program. Keep up the great work you and the other developers have put into it.

#14

Finished the piece, it is now in the gallery page. Thanks for those who gave me some good comments and I will work on the tutorial that some of you guys requested.
