(WIP) low poly model

#1

here a little model i started last night coming out good so far…just need the hands the the head to finish

Hi Max,I like it alot,it’s in a nice semi-relaxed pose,it’s proportionnal and you also deviated from the original refs, which is something I cannot recommend enough

Now my guess is you’re going to start editing the head.

Make sure you flatten the sides first so you don’t have to fight with the proportions later,a good skull is the basis for well placed and sized features,Andy Loomis emphasises on this,it’s almost fool-proof and, like much traditionnal methods, is applyable in 3D and works like a charm.

2 Loomis Books in pdf(if you haven’t got’em)

You’ve done a good job with the pant and really,if you were to add only one thing to them would be an additional edgeloop around the lower part and move the vertice closeby the bottom ones, then slightly move them independently, collapse a few vertice and you should havew a nice 3D fold.

My latest speed modeling video could help for a real quick N dirty face building reference but I know you’ve been there before, still it’s only 47 seconds/2mb…Hope to see more.

Hey Actaurs,
i liked you tutorial alot the beging looked similar to one on metagon. do u think the croth area is ok?.. i will work on adding the folds to the bottom of the pants.

i rounded out the the chest and arms. added the head and fingers…the head is very simple… i didnt think i need much detail in it since it wont be animated plus the hair covers most of the detail.

Thanks actually I use a mix of Martin’s demon’s method along with Bay’s extrudes/Tweak for defining the shoulder/armpits and of course a bit of my own but sometimes messy method as well.

The crotch looks fine from here.As for deforming, usually it’s better to load it in a software that can Rig,Pose and keep adding details if you want to spot the problematic areas.

Can’t wait for Wings3D to get some bones or bone-like objects, even if they’re only meant to deform the mesh at first as I don’t think we’ll see animation features sometimes soon…

Nice update, maybe a bit of tweaking on the hands to puff in some areas and take advantage of those segments on the sides.

Also, note that fingers have a longer exposition on the top of the hand.

i tweaked the hands a little. now im working in max welding verticies for redundent geometry(its alot easier in max) . then ill commense the unwrapping…

yea i first used pur9e body tutorial which he posted on spiraloid then after the shoulder step i ventured into my own way…i tried to keep the geometry clean and only using detail where need… for example in the last post i made the collar was an extrusion and it dosent need that many face…so i started welding them, same thing happend to the flap of the jacket…im thinking of downloading game space (the 30 day full eval not the Piratedone) and rigging him there. it has this cool thing i saw(video tutorials on 3dbuzz.com there very good have commentary) called puppeteer…i might try it…if not ill just rig it in max

SIDE NOTE:
actarus your videos tutorials can be reached at
http://www.mg-tek.com/videos
its the same place where i put the female one, now they can just go to the page and they get links to the 2 tutorials…if u have anymore remember i dont mind positing them…i have bandwith to spare

well i unwrapped the model heres how it came out

and i slapped some vertex collor in

#7

well i started texturing…not going very well…i think the pants came out ok…but i still need to practice…ill prbally end up redoing them later tonight

#8

Superb work there Max!

It’s very hard and long to paint with a mouse, imagine my case,left-handed,no tablet AND using the mouse on the right

BTW:Thanks alot Mad for hosting my modeling videos it’s appreciated :buttrock:

#10

yea painting with the mouse is so hard…but im just really bad at it.

what im thinking of doing is adding an alpha mask to the collar and flap and make it look a little torn…but i have to read up on this.

#11

Yep,that would look cool once in the engine.

Is anyone participating in the speed modeling thread in the modeling sub-section?

#12

i dont know ??..i dont think im at that level yet…lol
