Here is my initial idea. I did several concepts but I like the way this one going… so I’m going to finish it up. I’ll be posting more WIP soon… We only have 18 days left!
WIP - KREOLA - Chris Gilman
I realized a little while ago that it is very difficult to win these competitions… so instead of trying to win I’m going to do my own thing and have fun! I plan to print this out huge, pull out my brushes and oil paint it. I’m going to start with just building up the forms with 2 colors and bring it back into Photoshop to color it. That’s the plan, could end up great or end up with me sobbing at my local pub.
Hi Chris,
very nice concept. You got a quite dynamic composition going on with much to discover for the viewer. I really like it! I’d love to see this oil painted. Would definitely fit into a children’s book as an illustration with these playful and friendly shapes
In my opinion it’s totally cool if you use this challenge just as an inspiration regarding the time left to compete here. Actually, I am thinking about that, too :D.
Wish you much fun with your painting!
Take care,
Dziga
Thanks for the nice words Dziga. Hey I checked out your piece “Highlife in the monjacity” and thought it was really cool. You have some great art skills.
Heyo Chris,
Yeah down to the wire on the competition, but I love the whimsical nature of this piece and seeing it finished in mixed media will be great to watch. Definitely cute steam punk theme on this city! No need to sob at the local pub
Yay! Yes even though it might not finish in time, it’s great for your own practice and to get a finished piece to show later on! And to reiterate, I think it’ll look cool when done
Yessss… I love those linessss…!
About having fun instead care too much about winning - sometimes that can give good and unexpected results ;).

Jonatan
