Hio Arthur,
Unfortunately, neither of these concepts apply to the Kreola matte painting challenge. Are you working towards that or just personal work here and wanting to get feedback on that? The bottom looks much like Assassin’s Creed
Ackdoh,thanks for your feedback.
I am not applying the matte painting challenge, cause I dont think I am there yet.
However I wish I could someday.
All those work are my personal work and I wish get feedback from here to improve my skill.
Sounds like if I am not applying the challenge, then I dont need put the" WIP - Kreola" in front of my thread?
Just wanna make sure and dont wanna confuse others.
Yes, the bottom one is Assassin’s Creed, I like that game pretty much.
Ahh ok, yes go ahead and change your title of this post to just your name, no KREOLA. Assassin’s Creed is a great game, 4 is coming out
It is a great game, looks like it has a lot new functions in 4.
Can not wait to play~!
Hey Arthur! Although I don’t have a background in matte painting, my critiques maybe limited and not very helpful. What I can spot out that feels off to me are listed below, but take them with a grain of salt as I don’t have much experience in this field:
First painting with mountains:
clouds look a little fake. maybe cause theres not enough texture or opacity or shape to it? i looked up “cloudy fog mountains” in google, heres an example http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/nickolay/nickolay1008/nickolay100800019/7547478-cloudy-and-foggy-summer-nountain-landscape-great-smoky-mountains-tennessee-usa.jpg
the middle screen right-ish mountain seems too dark and strong, overtaking the buildings in front. also, if you look at the distance compared to the screen left mountains, the atmospheric effect should be about the same in depth
If you squint your eyes, the paintin feels screen right bottom heaby. Too much dark elements on screen right bottom, and too much white empty elements on screen left top. Something could be placed to balance the image screen left I feel.
Birds in middle of screen seems out of scale. They seem to be near the mountains but too big compared to the houses close by.
Perspective of the house to the tower seems a tad off. the 2 houses looks like were looking up at it since we cant see its ground, and the tower looks like were looking down at it, yet they are very close in height from camera.
Assassins Creed poster:
To me if I looked closely, the perspective feels a tad off with the buildings. Maybe its because of the screen left temple like building?
The bird in front of the moon feels like its almost creating tangent lines. Might consider recomposing that bird?
the big black tree in the middle of frame seems very undescriptive. Looks a little distracting, not sure if that is an element you wanted to feature?
the big building screen left looks like it doesn’t have definitive edges. seems like you lose the detail on the right of the building a lot.
Looking good though! Better than anything I can do. I’d love to hear actual matte painters comment and critique your work as well.
Cheers,
Wesley
Thank you so much wesley!
It helps a lot, now I m clear about where I need to fix to make it look more better.
So appreciate all above!!
