WIP-Female Head

#1

Hi,
I have been working on this head for a while and it’s time to ask for some help.

Since this is my first project related to human anatomy, I’m pretty sure there are lots of mistakes in it.
It’s supposed to be a female head in her mid 20ies.
Everthing was sculpted in Blender internally, but feel free to suggest some sculpting-workflows or technics from other software.

I’m going for a realistic sculpt, so feedback on her anatomy is very much appreciated.
And tips for presenting anatomy correctly are welcome as well.
But I’m happy with every advice:)

Thanks in advance,
Lukas

Quick update:
Added ears, eyebrows and some more details.

Next try: I felt like it was time to start another head.
I’m still working towards the same goal as before.
It still needs some time, but I would say I’m on the right track. (please help if I’m not :))
(just ignore the ears ;))

I had some free time and decided to sculpt a bit.
The anatomy is getting better, though I still have no idea what to do.
Just looking at reference seems to help, but I still appreciate any advice.

Reference ‘Philippe Faraut’ Hes really good at breaking down the human anatomy by blocking out planes to be able to understand more easily.
I see a lot of anatomy issues that seems wonky.
Make sure to always have the ears in when you sculpt a head. All features of the body corresponds to each other.

Thanks for your reply.
I’m definitely going to check out his work.
And I’m going to focus on getting the major structure right, before adding details in future sculptures.

Sup man
That;s really good You’re trying new things.
Make sure that You have good reference of skull, muscles of face and a face. One important thing You always should think about is “What’s under skin which i’m sculpting”. By that i mean You should know where each muscle is going etc.
I really think You should see this video if You;re going to sculpt a human head:

Push forward man and don’t give up, cheers <3

Thank you for the video and your kind words. I’m definitly going to give the video a shot
I just bought “Classic human anatomy” by Valerie L. Winslow. Hope it helps me understand the muscles and cartilages of the human face.

If I could chime in too, I would say to not worry too much about the muscles and cartilage of the face right now and just try to understand the underlying bone structure of the face and how it forms simple planes. I would suggest bringing down your poly count to the point where you can easily see the polygons and start working from there. Also a good piece of advice that really helped me was to turn up your brush size a lot and turn down your z intensity. What are the main brushes your using to sculpt with right now?

Also to piggyback on what Hannah said, I think it would really help you just to focus on the most basic planes of the face you can right now.

This piece is a good example of how just a few simple plane changes can still feel realistic even though it’s simple.

First of all, thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate your effort.

I’m mostly using the clay strips brush and the crease brush. Both are Blender internal.
