Im trying to think of the best way to produce the hair on this model in relation to the drawings, any thorts on this would be great!
WIP - Animated Series - Secret London (title wip)
Heres a small update to the model, just completed the head, modeled the hair and most of the glasses, going to start on the texture and bump map now …

Heres a few concepts of the lead guy Jack Douglas, ive just been playing around really until i get the look i want, researching in charicatures and the like…
Crits more than welcome

I’d like to see the chin alot rounder, its way to square right not
and also the glasses, are not square enough - as on the concepts.
killer concepts, stick to those
Hey Flow3d, thanks for the crit, much apriciated! im going to amend thos parts.
Cheers for the concept design mention too
Ive been working on a narative structure for the intro with a friend of mine, Philip, it introduces the character Jack Douglas, who is the leader of the cell. Im going to have some music in the background, and the voice of my character ‘Philip Lock’ played by my friend James, narating, whilst the animation and audio plays out, with sound effects in the background too.
Also i have a new title for the animation series, which is ’ Department 7 ’ hope you like it!
The following Image is the narative, with the highlighted parts being the individual shots. And the scribbly writing (sorry about that lol) being the description of the shot, ill type them up properly as ‘shot 1’ , ‘shot 2’ etc
Sorry about the spelling mistakes, i did this quickly, and will be amended…

- Charaters Episode 1 -
Jack Douglas Intro-
Duration of scene: 2 minutes 10 seconds
Character Narating the scene: Philip Lock
time: 0:00.00
This young individual is from Yorkshire. and is 21, Jack joined the army straight from finnishing school. It was what he’d always wanted to do,fighting was the only thing he had ever really been good at. Of course, he’d always had the discipline and restraint required to be an expert at martial arts, but being the member of the army was what he aspired toward with all his heart.
time: 0:00.40 - 0:00.42
For several years everything seem to be going his way, and his army career progressed well. His application to join the special forces group being assembled was accepted and he was brought forward for assesment. Jack excelled in every respect except for one. The last test was designed to show that the candidate had the ‘killer instinct’ to get the job done, deep in the wilds of Northern Ireland a prisoner was dragged forth and Private Douglas was handed a side arm and told to execute him there and then. Douglas refused and was immediately dismissed from the special forces regiment. He had failed. When it came down to it, he could not kill in cold blood.
time: 0:01.26 - 0:01.37
Jack Douglas is a young idealistic. One uncharacteristic lapse of discipline resulted in him losing his place in the army, and a sense of right and wrong prevented him from attaining his hearts desire. Determined to prove himself in another capacity. Proud of his moralistic decision, and dismayed by the lack of discipline, he continues to train; waiting for the chance he knows is around the corner. He is, after all, still young and idealistic.

Im not going to go into camera details just yet, this is just showing a basic over-view of what the shots will be like
Shot 1 -
Jack waking up out of bed, just a single bed in the corner of his small room, he lives in a flat with 3 other people who he doesnt get on with, and of which are complete slobs, he has an ensuite room, with shower, toilet, and sink.
Camera shows a large A1 sized poster of a women in a bikini (of which will be cg because of copy write laws etc), this suggests his young characteristics.
Shot 2 -
Jack sitting in the dirt in uniform holding a machine gun, protecting a convoy in Iraq, checking his gun, looking around, and giving a hint of a smile.
shot 3 -
We then go back to his room and focus on the trophies that are on his bedroom wall, from martial arts, as this illustrates the idea of
‘fighting was the only thing he had ever really been good at.’ as said by the narrator when this shot is being played out, with some Karate sound effects in the background.
shot 4 -
Here Jack is bowing with a component that he is going to fight with, in a karate tournament, which demonstrates his discipline and restraint, through the ideas that karate is all about.
shot 5 -
“required to be an expert at martial arts”
This shot shows the moment when Jack wins the fight and the tournament and recieves the main trophy that he has on his wall.
shot 6 -
“but being the member of the army was what he aspired toward with all his heart”.
This shot shows Jack saluting, with a close up of his head, but with just enough room to see the salute.
shot 7 -
This shot shows the medals that Jack has been rewarded in service of his country, with the camera moving right along the wall where they hang.
shot 8 -
This shot shows in some form how he has risen in the ranks, maybe somthing on his uniform to illustrate this, where the camera moves in for a close-up.
shot 9 -
This shot shows the A4 brown envelope being prepared by Jack to be sent off.
shot 10 -
This shot shows Jack retrieving a letter from his mail box.
shot 11 -
This shows Jack in the back of a jeep
shot 12 -
This shot shows Jack in camoflage hiding under a bridge with a semi automatic.
shot 13 -
This shows a prisoner being taken out of Jail.
shot 14 -
Camera flies in from above, and shows the prisoner being draged out of another vehichle and jack being handed a side arm.
shot 15 -
Camera moves in for a close up on Jacks face as a horrified expresion rushes over him.
shot 16 -
Back in Jacks room, he opens the door to his bathroom and walks inside.
shot 17 -
He then washes his hands.
shot 18 -
He then starts to shave. Showing him looking in the mirror, the shot fades out and into the next.
shot 19 -
Jack is shown having a brawl with a number of army officers in the street.
shot 20 -
Back in Ireland where he is told to shoot the prisoner in cold blood, while the camera is stillin a close up position on Jacks face, His head slumps down as if he know hes failed.
shot 21 -
The camera zooms out and upward, as Jack walks away
shot 22 -
Jack walks out the bathroom, with a small cut on his face.
shot 23 -
The camera moves left aross the wall as it shows the martial arts trophies, then continues left, to view the medals from the army.
shot 24 -
Jack picks up a barbell.
shot 25 -
The camera shows his modile phone ringing on the table. As Jack is lifting the weights, in the background where it isnt focused, and the phone is big in the foreground with a sharp image, Jack walks over and picks it up, as his image gets more into focus, the camera moves up as he picks up the mobile phone on the table, and then slowly zooms into his face, as he says hello.
Heya im not going to post all the story board up because it would flood the thread, so im going to just show the first couple of shots for now, untill i have the animatic done, and then ill will post that

some nice ideas you have here, some not bad looking sketches
waiting for more, wishing you good luck
Everything looks really good! Awsome work!
The boss’s nose sort of looks like a witches nose though…
Thanks guys! yea the nose does look a bit ‘witch’ like will be fitting with the storyline tho
im not guna give anything away yet, but it will all make sence sooner or later
nearly finnished with the animatic, and going to start working on the sets later! will post what ive done shortly…
Thanks for the compliments!
Im going to try and copy this explosion as much as possible for one of my army shots, just thinking about the best way to go about it, any suggestions would be great!..

Due to coursework commitments at uni, this project got stalled, BUT! im pleased to anounce that we have a confirmed name for the project which is
Department 7
Theres 3 of us working on the project now and predict the trailer to be completed in the next 2 months. WIP will be submitted weekly.
sounds cool, one thing though you might run in to problems with you characters mouth when rigging. i might be wrong i’d need to see a wire frame to be sure but the default shape looks difficult to rig.
Yea that right, im going to be starting the character from scratch, because i have a few different designs, plus im much more compitent in character modeling now, and can get the topology just right, the jaw and mouth on the character post just wouldnt work for animating

Hey heres the second concept design of philip lock, would like to know if people prefer this one to the previous one!
the previous ones, way cooler than this… stick to the old, stick to the old
old is gold…lol…
nah, you choose the one you would find easier to animate as your not doing this for a still image but for animation. So all the best… ![]()
Awesome
i think then… what im going to do is try and design the head again so that it looks very similar to the old one, but easy to animate
