Wings3d Normals?

#1

I have been modeling along in Wings3d building up more models for my ever expanding 3d environments. I have a problem. When I export the models to my 3d apps the Wings3d model smoothing seems to have a problem with surface normals in my other 3d apps. I see tri-faced edges on quad faces and what not. How do I clean up my models in Wings3d so that the models will look good in other 3d apps? I model using the bevel tool alot and then select everything in face mode and and Teselate\Quadrangulate. I know, I have to read up more on Wings3d modeling topology, I just do have that much time to read many tutorials and such. I had to jump into Wings and hope that I could bail myself out later with your help. Thanks.

Who’s been keeping these Wings3d modeling secrets from me?

Wings3d Rocks!!!

What format are you using to transfer models?

If it is .3ds triangulated models are all it can carry. It is a fundamental problem with .3ds, I recommend .obj or .fbx (although I am just about to try .fbx, I let you know how it goes shortly).

I am using .obj. I export my Wings models into Blender 2.28a. Maybe I can post a test Wings3d model for you to check out.
Turning off smooth shading in Blender seems to make things look better. But until I get this worked out, I have to switch modeling work back to Blender.

I just downloaded this little helper until I get Wings3d normals thing down- http://www.setanta.nildram.co.uk/LoopCutter.html

Thanks.
