I’d be interested. Is this “true displacement”? Does it use Nvidia-style normal mapping or “plain-ole” heightmapping (still very useful, of course)? I took a quick look at your boards, but I wasn’t sure where to volunteer, so I thought I’d reply here…

PS I keep trying to use (and like  manifold, but it’s so cryptic… Do you have any tutorials/ “getting started” materials for simpletons? I’m actually working on something in wings now that I’d like to uv map and generally fiddle with in manifold, but I don’t have a lot of time for getting to know the program “the hard way”…

It’s cryptic out of Necessity. I can’t afford to document stuff that will change very rapidly and often. That being said … I don’t think it would be cryptic to you if you asked a few question on the Board. I’m trying to make the GUI simple enough that it should only require HIGH-LEVEL docs in the end (version 1.0). No docs for key strokes etc. (They should be documented by the help-tips). I’m trying to rely on contextual menus precisely because we are striving to find a moving target with the development of Manifold. Maybe we can harden up a particular release in the not too distant fucture so it would be more friendly and obvious in its GUI.

What you don’t like can change and be made better. Frequent releases for Manifold.

I think this has got to be considered TRUE displacment mapping. It’s based on micropolygons and is implemented by a RenderMan complient renderer of your choice.

Id like to understand why it seems hard to use the forum. Is it hard to find it ? I sure didn’t think so. But your opinion might be different. I can easily change some text to make things more clear as needed.

Please come back to the ManifoldLab forum and join up, make a post. We can start a dialog about what’s too cryptic … you can be the spark for a few net features or something.
