Wings to AM Exporter?

#1

When I first picked up Animation Master 11, Wings exported geomentry to it fine, that is v9.5 exporter being read by AM v11. In the last couple of months it just stopped working, and crashes AM.

Not sure what update did it, Wings, AM, or just other software, as I have tried using older version of both software and can no longer get Wings to “talk” to AM.

I was under the impression that the AMs’ file format is backwards AND forwards compatable. The what it doesn’t understand it ignores methodology.

Any chance, to get the exporter updated, or someone to look at some of the mdl files?

Thanx in advance.

Hi

You do know that Wings deals with polygones and Animation Master with splines… so they are very different. Exporters/Importers will never be perfect.
For simple objets it’s okay but for a full character… forget about it.
It’s always much better to stay in the same package (full 3D solftware) regardless which one.

Cheers

That all good and known. I was just testing the waters to see if anybody else has a working solution. Obviously once upon a time somebody used wing3d and AM together.

Have to animate my models somewhere.

Blender is getting close…oh so close, but not quite - I give it 6 months and the Wings 3d to Blender 3D will be THE opensource way to 3d excellence, but until then…?

Right now, I export my wings 3d model out as an OBJ, import it into a modified version of Crossroads 3D, and export it again to .DXF, then import the .DXF file into AM. And this works great, but I’d like to speed up the process, and just export it out to a MDL or DXF.

AM imports 3ds, but trianglated meshes look BAD in AM, they should have done .OBJ!

It was recommended I post this out to see if anybody could fix/update the exporter.

Anybody?
