Wings/Lighwave Quickstart: Hotkeys List Please

#1

I am very familiar with Lightwave’s modeler. Is there a list with the hotkeys in simple text form so I can get up and running really fast. I want to try and add Wings3d to the list of tools I can use fairly quickly.

Any information from Lightwave users between the crossover of the two would also be nice. Thank you in advance.

Help menu > Defined Hotkeys! :o)

That’s a start. I can’t believe I didn’t see it. Any Lightwave crossover specific tricks or thought process people have come across from using Wings for a while to speed up the curve is much appreciated.

Right Click is how to find most operations, instead of the menu on the left. Extrude Region is equal to LW’s Smooth Shift… and well not sure about rest, I am not a LW user.:bounce:

I made alot of changes to get it to work like lightwave (well to get similar keys that is)

Extrude region = smoothshift.

G = bandsaw select. to cut just hit C or if you want multiple cuts hit a number key for number of cuts, then hit c to connect them all.

A = center display on item or selected.

Shift+A = zoom in and frame selected

X / X+Shift = x axis
Y / Y+Shift = y axis
Z / Z+Shift = z axis
Becareful not to remove the z+shift to make a dissolve key

delete have your model and turn on virtual mirror. works alot better than symmetry in LW.

To set shortcut keys go to the menu item highlight it. Press the insert key then the key to assign it.

Here are some key reasignments that will help

U = undo
Shift+U = redo

Tab = View>Quick smoothed preview (this is a toggle so use it to go back and forth, same as tab in LW)
Shift+Tab = View>work mode

Since selections do not show on the surface of quick smooth you may want to use proxy mode (at least one element on object must be selected for this work.

Ctrl + T = Tweak (like LW drag tool)

T = Move>Free.

] = Select>Adjacent>Objects

That should help a bit. These are the settings I use.

There are no rotate or stretch tools. you can kind of emulate them but it is a work around since you have to select some polys to use as an axis. save that axis. THEN in the tools use default axis which will use that one.

If you have advanced menus enabled,
all you have to do to rotate around a selected element:
Select what you want to rotate.
Rightclick to bring up the menu,and rightclick on the rotate command.
Then you select an element to rotate around.

After that you can use last axis if you want to use it again.
