wings amazing ! now some questions..

#1

i have just tried wings for about 1 hr and it is awesome ! i was wondering, is there a knife type tool ? select loop and ring tool ? by the way, having a mouse with 9 buttons comes in very handy

#2

select loop and ring tool

Press L and G when selecting or hovering over an edge.

Nope no knife tool (something like this is planned for the future but may be a long way off) in most situations select rdge ring (g) and connect © is just as good. - Baz

<< select rdge ring (g) and connect © >>

Depending on geom - I also use Edge | Bevel on the new edge sequence formed after the connect op - drag one set of edges to where you want them and dissolve the unwanted ones after (use Object cleanup to remove isolated verts)

Or - Edge | Extrude -> Normal (hold shift to constrain height to zero), and press + / - to move boundary edges (remove unwanted edges as before, etc)

Some talk here about using Edge | Cut -> RMB option (lets you slide a new vert to a position of your choice along the cut edge)

light bulb goes off over head

That’s a great little tip to slide the edgeloop,… sure beats the way I’ve been doing it. At least until we get a slide option in the latest release.

Thx - also, if of interest / use…

Been mentioned before, but maybe worth repeating - Use Bump (hold shift to constrain height to zero) and use +/- keys to get new edges where you want them.

I find this a reasonable workaround for Inset Region.

eg

Select a group of (adjacent) faces
Invert selection
Apply Face | Bump …use +/- (or ‘tab’ entry) to move new edges.

Can also be used with an edgeloop, of course.
Select loop
Press Shift +L to convert to faces

Then use bump as above (may not always need to invert, of course)

Not as interactive as bevel, but has it’s uses - imo.
