Windy dunes


I’m doing an intro for a project, something close to the english patient intro.
Desert, dunes, and of course sand dust.
setting the particle system was easy, the only problem is I will be needing millions and millions of particles, which might not be so practical, so I was wondering if you guys ever did something like this, and if there is a more optimized version than using a million cube shaped particles, opacity mapping or something.

Using Krakatoa with PRT loader is the way to do it. Various method can be used texture based surface emittion, volume emittion. But in the end Krakatoa will help to render millions of particles.
