windows file browser in photoshop?

Isn’t there a way to change the file browser window for the Save As, Open, export, etc.?

It has those useless icons on the left instead of the file tree, found in pretty much Every other application. So I can’t access my favorites. Also you lose out on the full menu bar at the top, so you can’t highlight the path if you want to copy where a file is quickly.

I thought I remembered a way to switch that, but I can’t find it anywhere, probably because I’m just having poor google skills today. I can’t think of what else to call it. I thought there was a secret preferences menu too, if you hold down shift while opening it or something, but I’m not finding that online anywhere either. Maybe I’m just remembering the easter egg for the about menu if you hold down shift+ctrl?

Anyone know of a way to change the file browser to the standard one?

Can’t answer your question, but have a look at FolderGit. It’s like bookmarks for file dialogs. It might make your life a little happier.

That will work. I think I found the solution also, but it’s not as simple as a preference somewhere. It looks like you have to do a registry edit, or use some software like tweakUI that does a registry edit for you.

I like the FolderGit option, which will just work in Every window. I noticed it’s not just adobe software that sometimes gives the other style window with useless buttons on the left (unless you maybe save Everything on the desktop)

Thanks for suggesting it. Very much appreciated.

It doesn’t work in my ten year old MS Office apps.

Don’t overlook the “Copy Directory Name To Clipboard” command (like I did for AGES).
