And here I was hoping for something along the lines of “GET BACK TO WORK CHRIS-Theres money to be made!”
Neil Blevins is also an amazing member…even to the point where he as actually e-mailed me critique about my work.
This is actually not a one-line lecture, but just kinda one-line inspiration… does that count?
It’s from Fausto De Martini the time he hes Mariner.
In the first post he wrights: " Hi! I’m doing this mariner to try get a job on Blizzard Entertainment… I know thats will not be easy, but I have a lot of hope" and later in the same thread he wrights “The cool news is: I got the job at Blizzard!!!”
That is the most inspiring thing I’ve read on cg talk…
If I recall it was actually THROUGH cgtalk he got the gig – Tito knew someone who knew someone I think
For my mentor - the collective force of CGTalk is my mentor. I can’t possibly narrow it down to one particular person.
Heh, well I am new here on the forums though not new on the site, and so far the person that has helped me everytime has been monica-taddei
So yea thanks for all the help so far
Time to write a book ;).
Really good and true quotes, but Jackdeth (with all respect) isn’t my hero. That place is reserved for Keith Richards (since I was 5) - he only posted on cgtalk once. Kind of the same philosophy, tho
“Why create something from scratch when it can be copied in half the time?”
-Dale Williams
A mentor of mine* and 75% of Hollywood.
(*)-O.k., maybe not mine.
I have to say eek (Charles Looker) Vyntax (Stu Jones) and Slurry have been a MASSIVE help to me, hehe they must get sick of me nagging them somtimes but they’ve given me so much advice on how to improve my work and the industry. this is a tough carear to get into and having pro’s to help you is a HUGE help.
Cheers guys.
chris
Airflow and Atwooki. And big hugs to many others.
Oh, and myself. I am a giant amungst men - both physically and mentally…
ah shucks, thanks Chris.
In this industry you have to be humble and be learning all the time, for that these are my long time TD buds - Paul, Kees, Harvey, Mark, John, Brad, Kai and Luis.
I’m more flattered when he still had time to reply PMs (with quality questions of course) during his insane hours. And he answered my questions (first reply) on Q&A session. Yeehaaaa…!!!
Colin, was that the time when you said to yourself, “it’s time to give back to community…” everytime to reply to a threat?

I PM’d Remi a few years back for some help on one of his modeling vids. He told me to IM him. When I did, he directed connected to me and started going through step by step the whole process. That was the start of what has become one of the best friendships I’ve ever had.
Not really a mentor thing but I like the way beaker (Deke Kinkaid) offers up advice. It aint easy working full-time and being helpful and I can’t imagine what it would be like to be a mod. A lot of folks are happy to talk about 3d but no-one wants to go into details about comp.
edharriss is the thirst one who came in my mind now. a very cool and constructive members:thumbsup: .
I’ve learnt a lot from Eek, PEN and Stahlberg’s work around here, out not so much on the forum, but a forum member, Bloggs has been a huge inspiration to me and my work (he’s one of the main reasons I’m here now).
Robert “Lunatique” Chang, I learnt a lot from that time I spoke to him on Skype. He’s an awesome guy.
One can learn from so many awesome people here! I’d say I’d have to thank Rebeccak for the Anatomy threads - the talent she’s drawn there is pure inspiration…
There are graet examples here and I’ve seen many people go out of their way to help others. I don’t post much on cgtalk and have been doing 2D lately but I consider Linda to be a great mentor because of her tutorials and tips. Same for Natasha Roeoesli, plus very inspiring website. One of the greatest and most inspiring “how to paint” threads on these forums is by Nebezial, simply amazing artist who goes out of his way to share techniques and advice.
I’ve argued with and been slapped around by Leigh but she’s done great job with the tutorials she has posted which go directly to my 3D workstation harddrive for easy references. Hi Leigh
Most of these people I never talk to directly, I’m nonetheless greatful for the help they provide.
