Brian,
Thanks for the additional links!
Best,

I used to be hardcore LW… The amount of support and plugins written by the community mean it’s still a solid app with fantastic breadth and depth…feels pretty dated now when it used to lead the way…
It’s lost its way though and modo feels much more progressive… Still a few niggles with modo (symettry and the odd stability issue…and there are a few tools here and there that LW has that it misses …railbevel anyone?) I loved the new painting tools and it supports endomorphs which has to be the way forward… It’s a bit pricey but nice… (I decided not to buy) although the interactive renderer was as fast as F-prime…if it could render animation it’d be a lot more interesting.
Wings is addictive as hell… don’t know if it’s just the smugness you feel at its minimalist approach and Open source kudos… The cut tool is still unbeaten imho and the mapping is surprisingly strong!
Yep, Silo has a great workflow! Mines set up with my favourite workflow from wings and lightwave style navigation (still the best nav style with a tablet)… the new version is definately a strong contender… I love the new displacement tools.
At the moment it’s getting a lot of love from me… Its mnajor flaw is that most of the modelling tools fundamentaly corrupt any UVs you may have laid down… It is a beta, fingers crossed that they address this soon as possible… the topology brush and surface snapping are worth the entry fee alone!..
I’m a mixed bag:
Silo, Modo, LW, ZB and XSI. But I also dabble in Nurbs once in while with Rhino and Amapi Pro.
Looking forward to Mudbox.
80% Modo
20% Lightwave
I can see that changing if their animation part is solid and well featured. Then it’ll be 100% modelling in modo and probably 100% of everything else…except CA of course?..well let’s see what they have up their sleeves…
