Where does a graphic programmer works?

#1

I wonder… where should a graphic programmer work?. Graphic programming sounds to me like a game programmer. I´m learning graphics programming , OpenGL, and the math inside and now that i´m finishing my career in Computer Science, where should i go to use what i learned??

thanks!

All kind of stuff in game companies.
On the multimedia side you have the back-end for expensive corp ID that can have some challenges, or emerging platforms development (android, iPhone/iPad).
RnD in film and feature animation studios (or more rarely the large, high end commercials shops).
Medical and architectural visualisation, or other scientifical applications of CG.
Very rarely VJing.
Technical Direction in the more fluid shops where RnD is scattered and not centralised…

Plenty paths one can take.

Jaco, are there a lot of (graphic) programmer right there in animal logic?

ok! Thanks a lot.

Yeah. I knew it was going to be those things. Luckily i live in Madrid, and here is Next Limit Technologies, where Maxwell render, RealFlow, and XFlow where done. Lord of the rings fires where done here, and well, it´s a good place as a goal. Simulations are great for graphic programmers and phisicists.
Ilion animation studios is here too. Planet51 was done here. I didn´t like the script at all, but hey!, the look was really great!

Millions!
Or more seriously, I never know if it’s the kind of thing I can discuss or not to be honest.

If you look at last year you can take Legend of the Guardians and Sucker Punch credits (they were going on at the same time towards the end of the former), and from those you could easily extrapolate that when we’re at our largest it’s several dozens people between the more technical TDs and the RnD department.
